Multimatic to Showcase Advanced “Art-to-Part” Composite Solutions at JEC World 2025
MARKHAM, ON, Canada (January 31, 2025) – Multimatic, a privately held, global enterprise supplying components, systems, and engineering services to the automotive industry, will be a first-time exhibitor this year at JEC World, the leading international composites show. The event will take place at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre in France from March 4 to March 6, 2025.
“With over 43,500 professionals from 100 countries expected in attendance, JEC World is the place to be for composites industry professionals,” stated Dan Nagel, Product Line Manager for composites at Multimatic Product Services. “Our team is very excited to participate as exhibitors for the first time this year after many positive experiences as attendees of the event. We look forward to showcasing Multimatic’s innovative capabilities as a global one-stop-shop for composite solutions, reconnecting with our customers and suppliers, and expanding our network.”
A True One-Stop Shop
Multimatic provides “art-to-part,” weight optimized solutions to customers without any bias towards specific manufacturing processes or materials. The company employs a unique combination of in-house engineering and low to high volume production expertise, developed over four decades of experience, to design and produce complex composite products and assemblies for a wide range of applications. Multimatic is:
- A “full-service” composites supplier
Integration of engineering, simulation, prototyping, testing, validation, and production capabilities, backed by extensive experience in high performance composites structures and manufacturing R&D. This includes custom tooling to meet all customer requirements.
- Agnostic to specific processes and materials
Fully committed to finding and delivering the ideal solution to a specific problem without any bias towards a particular process or material. The design and engineering of the part are always integrated with the matching production process to achieve the lightest part which meets all structural, functional, and appearance requirements. Nearly all formats of thermoset manufacturing processes are available, including autoclave, press mould, and Selective Pre-Preg (SPP)—a proprietary process specifically developed by Multimatic for high-volume applications.
Materials selection is based on Multimatic’s extensive composites database of material properties and bonding performance that have been meticulously correlated to physical parts through years of testing and development. This in-depth understanding is the foundation of our capability to embed multiple materials and processes into an optimized solution.
- Unmatched in breadth of capabilities
Customer projects range from complete vehicle programs, such as the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro with its carbon fibre monocoque and bodywork, to the production of individual carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) components, such as F1 brake ducts.
Additionally, Multimatic leverages its proprietary SPP process for high-volume applications, such as underbody structural components on premium production sportscars.
- A global leader
International collaboration between innovative engineering teams in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Europe, and China, enables specialized composite production in North America and the United Kingdom.
Selective Pre-Preg Product Showcase at the JEC World Mobility Innovation Planet
JEC World attendees will have the opportunity to check out the automotive composite underbody stiffening brace, produced with the Selective Pre-Preg (SPP) process, at this year’s Mobility Innovation Planet, the world’s biggest showcase area highlighting the latest composites innovations.
SPP is a proprietary technology developed by Multimatic to maximize throughput for high-volume production of carbon fibre structural components. This compression moulding process minimizes cycle times by utilizing specialized resin formulations with cure time as fast as 60 seconds, and optimized parallel processes to efficiently transfer a net, or near net, shaped dry carbon fibre preform through the production stages.
The underbody “Bat Brace” and supporting struts are produced using Multimatic’s SPP process, representing the continued development and refinement of the technology since the first SPP product won the JEC Innovation Award in 2016.
Multimatic designed the underbody chassis stiffening brace with optimized load path and parts integration for a premier German luxury sportscar. It incorporates a Tailored Fibre Placement (TFP) structure with hybrid materials that precisely aligns the fibres for maximum stiffness and reduced weight, meeting the strict performance and efficiency requirements of a world-class production sportscar.
The use of TFP with hybrid materials is advantageous and applicable for a wide range of use-cases across different industries beyond the automotive segment. It enables Multimatic to consolidate multiple components into a single, highly optimized part, reducing assembly complexity, weight, and material usage with the potential of enhancing performance.
Visitors to Multimatic’s booth (stand 5F10) will have the opportunity to discover its innovative “art-to-part” capabilities and network with its team of experts, such as Dr. Hannes Fuchs, Structures Chief Program Engineer, Multimatic Engineering. A lineup of product demonstrators will also be on display, showcasing its diverse range of capabilities from one-off prototypes to high-volume components for production road vehicles. These include a carbon fibre monocoque from one of the most dynamic hypercars in the world, as well as a lightweight active aero device that is a part of a fully engineered Drag Reduction System (DRS).
