DSSV^™ on Nürburgring Record Holder

MARKHAM, Ontario (July 9th, 2018) ― Porsche has made history by breaking its own long standing lap record of the famous Nürburgring, Nordschleife. The 919 Hybrid Evo, a development of the company’s Le Mans winning LMP1 contender, has been on a mission to reset lap records at some of the world’s most iconic race tracks, starting in April with a lowering of the Spa benchmark, previously held by an F1 car, by three quarters of a second. Now this performance technology demonstrator has slashed the 35 year old 6:11.13 record at the legendary “Green Hell” by a staggering 52 seconds, setting an impressive 5:19.55 with the equally impressive Timo Bernhard at the wheel.

The “Evo” version of the 919 Hybrid incorporates a number of advanced technologies, not originally permissible by the FIA/ACO prototype rules, for example: active aerodynamics and torque vectoring. The car has retained its highly novel suspension layout that utilizes Multimatic’s Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve (DSSV™) dampers with integrated inerters (acceleration based force generation) as used by the LMP1 program since its inception in 2013. This suspension’s technology partnership contributed to securing three 24 Hours of Le Mans overall wins as well as FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) titles in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
