Smart Door® Module
- Electronic control eliminates all mechanical logic systems in door
- Window regulator, latching and checking functions monitored and controlled
- Eliminates rods, cables, manual releases, logic levers and motion compensators
- Higher levels of door/ window function easily achieved
Multimatic has developed a number of electronic control strategies aimed at
reducing the complexity of the door hardware system. These range from a proprietary
"smart" actuator that eliminates release handles, rods and cables to an electronic module
that controls all door functions including the window regulator (logic, speed etc.), all
latching/locking, an infinite doorcheck system, active glass latching and sealing strategies
and speed sensitive defeating.
A number of proof of concept prototypes have been built, including a comprehensive configuration
within a four side flush glass system that included all of the functions outlined above. Recently
a system was developed and installed into a 1994 Lincoln Town Car which replaced the mechanical
interior release hardware on all four doors with an electrically actuated push button release system.
The operator can open the door from the inside via a push button control located on the door armrest,
or remotely with the keyfob. Additional functionality consists of a remote switch actuated child lock
safety function, replacing the standard manually actuated system. A manual override delatch pull cable
is provided in the front map pockets and rear ashtrays. The exterior release remains standard
(ie: direct acting mechanical handle) although electronic actuation can be easily incorporated.
This system is currently being considered as an option for the upcoming FN-145 and the Mark VIII programs.
