Chevrolet Chooses Championship Winning Multimatic DSSV™ Dampers for the 2014 Camaro Z/28

MARKHAM, Ontario (April 1st, 2013) – When Chevrolet took the cover off its 2014 Camaro Z/28 during a special unveiling at the New York Auto Show last week, it marked the first time Multimatic’s high performance DSSV™ (Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve) damper technology has been made available in a “volume” production road car application.

DSSV damper technology has an enviable track record highlighted by Red Bull Racing’s four consecutive F1™ World Championships (2010 – 2013). Other notable accomplishments include factory installation on the Aston Martin One-77 supercar, six Le Mans class wins in the past five years, and five Champ Car titles.

All DSSV dampers, including those on the Z/28, employ a pair of proprietary self-piloted spool valves to provide highly accurate suspension control. Fluid flow through the spool valve’s ports can be mathematically modeled and their shape fine tuned to achieve a desired damper Force/Velocity (F/V) characteristic. Various motorsports tuning techniques were utilized in combination with the analytically driven damper characterization to fully optimize the Z/28 suspension, including multi-post shaker rig testing, driver-in-the-loop simulation as well as road and track evaluation.

Multimatic’s Vice President of Engineering, Larry Holt, stated: “We are tremendously proud and excited that General Motors has chosen DSSV to be a part of the rebirth of the iconic Z/28. We are confident that this unique damper technology will contribute to making the Z/28 the ultimate track-capable Camaro.”
