Trackless Seat Adjuster
This seat adjuster is based on a proprietary four
bar link mechanism that returns a linear motion identical to that
of a conventional track arrangement. A third "compensator" member
is the basis of the linear motion linkage system. Two of these linkage
systems connect the seat frame anchorage to the riser assembly. Key
features of this design include:
- Novel four bar link motion compensator returns linear output
- Significant weight and cost savings
- Capability to offset front and rear mounting to avoid floor
obstructions

The major advantages of this arrangement are as follows:
- Utilizes a lightweight system of discrete components interacting through
rotary joints. The elimination of all linear, sliding interfaces significantly
increases the reliability of the system. Mass analysis of equivalent
function, physical prototypes returned a 35% weight saving compared
to a conventional track arrangement
- Simplified manufacturing processes assure high quality and cost effective
assemblies. Individual load carrying members can be optimised to maximize
system strength to weight ratio. This arrangement is well suited to
fully structural seats, capable of carrying all required seatbelt loadings
- System can accommodate a wide range of floor pan configurations as
the linkage systems can be offset
